It’s been 51 years since the opinion poll took place and changed the destiny of Goa into being an independent state forever.
It was the only referendum that took place in our country that had the power to shape Goa’s future as a state. With the efforts of Dr. Jack Sequeria and others, the people of Goa voted against the merger and Goa eventually became a full-fledged state of India, as we know it today.
Goa attained its own identity as a state after a lot of struggle and it is therefore our duty as proud Goenkars to conserve the identity of our state. The diverse culture, scenic beauty and a harmonious society defines Goa and we need to work towards ensuring that inspite of the constant change in today’s times, our identity remains the same. It should be our aim to preserve Goenkarpon and pass on the traditions and pride to our future generations as well. All the years of efforts to make Goa an independent state should not be forgotten and efforts need to be made individually to show unity and pride of being Goenkars.
I have always worked towards the betterment of the society through my constant efforts in the fields of technology, community welfare and empowerment of the people, and it is all done to create a united and strong community of the people of Goa. With the help of a supportive and receptive community, we can take Goa to heights that our ancestors had envisioned as they fought for Goa to be a free state.
While we talk about constantly striving to work towards being a progressive society, we need to ensure keeping our Goan roots intact while working towards sustainable development of our society.
I will, in my capacity, always work in the interest of Goen , Goenkar and Goenkarpon, and would always stand up against anything that hinders or compromises this. For Goa has always been in my heart , blood and on my mind , I will ensure I do everything in my ability to keep our identity intact & help Goa remain the beautiful state that it is.
