What Water Problems did Porvorim Face?
Prior to 2012, Porvorim suffered from a major shortage and inconsistency of water supply. Many attempts by residents to improve the water supply were futile. Since we consider regular and clean water supply a basic human right (by our definition), improving the water supply to the constituents became one of the major task for us.
What we Achieved in Our Tenure?
After being elected in 2012, we began to tackle the problem at its root and improved the infrastructure that accommodated the growing needs of the constituency. Fruits of the labour were borne in the form of an 40% increase in water supply to Porvorim.
- Bigger pipelines – laying them has increased the water flow.
- 3 new OHRs have been set up in 3 Panchayats. Currently in their final stages of completion.
- Increased levels of the underground reservoirs – efforts have been made for more water storage.
- Rain water harvesting plant:
– A green project for the constituency’s water management.
– Plant will soon be set up near the Police Quarters.
– Apart from storing rain water, this plant will pull out raw water from the ground which will be used to add to the existing water supply.
Currently, a new 650 m3 Overhead Reservoir is being built to ensure the storage and supply of water to Vaddem, Carrem, Aradi, Zoswaddo and the neighbouring areas. This project has been estimated to be completed by the end of November and 2.6 Crores have been invested.
