Garbage awareness drive was conducted in Salvador-do-Mundo by the Village Panchayat of Salvador-do-Mundo, Porvorim under the guidance of the local MLA – Shri. Rohan A. Khaunte. Large participation of the residents right from the youths, ladies and all aged groups from the entire plateau of Salvador-do-Mundo showcased the deep thought of the serious issue of garbage in the drive. More than 150 bags of plastic waste and other waste were collected. The Panch Members followed the drive by doing house to house awareness about the garbage menace. The leaflets were distributed to the household and others explaining them of segregation of garbage. Shri. Rohan A. Khaunte said that house to house garbage will start in the next eight days including cleaning of the open areas. As a start, the drive was conducted today to create awareness among Hotel, Restaurants, Shops and Residences. This initiative will go a long way to create clean and green Porovrim which is my dream.
It is pertinent to mention herewith that whatever the garbage collected today out of which 30% were plastic bags and plastic bottles. On certain locations the garbage was cleaned through JCB. The house to house collection will be starting in 3 wards in the plateau and the balance 6 wards initially on dry waste and plastic will be commenced under the Panchayat.
